Every element of its construction, from the foundation to the roof, meets the highest standards in environmentally sustainable methods and materials, making it one of the greenest residences and retail spaces in New York City.
The Designer
The architect and developer of Metropolitan Green is Mark Helder, principal of Helder Design, an architectural design studio. Helder Design is committed to exploring high performance, energy-efficient, environmentally responsible construction through the design-build model.
Helder established Helder Design in the Netherlands in 1998, and relocated to New York in 2002. Metropolitan Green is the realization of Helder’s vision of creating a mixed-use space that benefits the community, his tenants and the environment.

Large, south-facing windows naturally warm the space on sunny winter days while high-mass walls and floors naturallyregulate temperature fluctuations year-round. - Radiant-Floor Heating and Ventilation with Heat Recovery
A radiant-floor heating system, working in tandem with an energy-recovery ventilation system, reduces energy bills and increases indoor comfort. In addition, an air-filtration system ensures that the ambient air is near HEPA standards and is some of the cleanest in the metropolitan area. - Rapid Renewable Building Materials
